Sicily keeps on being in the thoughts of Netflix scriptwriters, seemingly. The next series that is going to be released on 5th March is a masterpiece of a Sicilian literature:” Il Gattopardo”, in English “The Leopard”, by Tomasi di Lampedusa. It is the fascinating story of a Sicilian prince who has to deal with his changing world. On the occasion of the release, the Sicilian winery Donnafugata has just announced its collaboration with Netflix, a deal that gives life to the exclusive wine “Mille e Una Notte 2021 Special Edition”. The wine is blend of Syrah and Nero D’Avola grapes grown in the Contessa Entellina Estate and in other zones of the Sicily. In the novel by Tomasi di Lampedusa, Donnafugata is the name of the protagonist’s estate, so it looked obvious that Donnafugata’s wine would be the one chosen by Netflix to pay homage to this tale set in the heart of western Sicily. The "lands of the Leopard” are where the vineyards of the Sicilian company are located. Here, small productions of fine wines are born, such as “Mille e Una Notte”, “Tancredi”, “Angheli” and “Sedàra” . All of those names pay tribute to the Tomasi di Lampedusa’s novel. This collaboration represents another important milestone in the dialogue between wine and cultural heritage. “This synergy is a great source of pride for us," claimed José Rallo, Donnafugata’s owner with her brother Antonio. "With Mille e Una Notte 2021 Special Edition, we want to tell the heart and soul of Sicily, just as Netflix does with the series The Leopard. This is proof that wine is a true vehicle of culture." José Rallo continues: "Through this special partnership, Donnafugata aims to strengthen its role as an ambassador of Made in Italy." Antonio Rallo also stated that “the 2021 vintage of “Mille e Una Notte” stands out for its extraordinary elegance. The favorable conditions of the vintage, along with the care we all invest in our fieldwork and the meticulous processes of winemaking and aging, make Mille e Una Notte Special Edition 2021 the perfect wine to tell Sicily’s story to the world."
